Spring/Summer 2019 will be the season of prints. Almost every designer embraced statement prints on the runways. From tie-dye, to animal and silk scarf prints, more is definitely more this season. Get ready for clashing styles, bold colors and eye-catching patterns.

Will tartan ever go out of style? For sure no! Over the past years however, the pattern has experienced a modern update from season to season and has turned into a staple for every woman’s wardrobe. Checked shirts, skirts and pants are laid back yet outstanding statement pieces, combining conservative aesthetics and urban coolness. This season the traditional pattern isn’t worn subtly at all: You wear tartan all over in eye-catching colors. It is such an easy yet exceptional look. You don’t need to add much more to create an interesting outfit.

Marques’Almeida

London punk meets a jolly Mediterranean essence. The designers behind Marques’Almeida are Marta Marques and Paulo Almeida. The Portuguese design duo studied together at London’s Central Saint Martins College. After working for Vivienne Westwood, they founded their own brand in 2011. Marques’Almeida has a very youthful and effortless aesthetic. It combines big city vibes with traditional Portuguese roots.

My Marques’Almeida look

I am totally in love with my two-piece Marques’Almeida look. I am wearing an oversized shirt and matching skirt from the current SS19 collection. The whole collection is dominated by statement pieces with unexpected fits and proportions and bright and youthful colors. My checked shirt has an oversized fit, two large pockets and a buttoned front. It is the perfect piece for cool layering-looks. I absolutely love the utility-inspired style and the distressed hem. The checked cotton is actually a homage to Portuguese fishermen’s workwear. I combined the more masculine shirt with a feminine mini skirt. The black belt with the eyelets creates a nice contrast and adds some cool 90s vibes to the outfit.

My look in details

When you wear tartan all over, you only need a few key pieces to complete your look. Since temperatures still do not remain stable throughout the day at this time of the year, I always choose different layers. You can never go wrong with a basic white Wolford body. I really love the quality and the fit. It not only keeps me warm but also balances out the eye-catching look. I always like to use basics to not look over the top.

I opted for black accessories and black shoes to match the color of the belt. Wearing knee-high boots with skirts, will be my go-to spring look. They are a great staple to have in your wardrobe and instantly elevate any kind of look. My Jimmy Choo boots are super versatile with a perfect every day heel height. You can never go wrong with a classic Chanel bag. It will match and upgrade any outfit you decide on. A perfect off-duty look.
