The cycling shorts comeback

// by

Fashion trends change like the weather. They come and go. Some of them disappear forever, others celebrate a huge comeback after a certain amount of time. I always stay true to my style and do not bend for fast-paced trends. I always invest in timeless classics and like to style them in different ways. This time however, I became weak and just had to create several outfist with fashion’s new must-have : Cycling shorts

Kim K – ahead of the trend

Kim K loves a good pair of tight cycling shorts. Finally, she has managed to resurrect the good old 80s item. As always, she was ahead of the trend. She already started to wear the shorts about two years ago, when Kanye West presented several cycling shorts during his Yeezy Season 4 show. You might say or think what you want about her, but you have to admit, she is always one step ahead in terms of fashion and she definitely makes cycling shorts look incredibly cool.

Cycling shorts – back to the 80s

Cycling shorts were a big thing in the 80s and early 90s and they are finally back. They are not made in crazy patterns like I remember them from my childhood, but the length and style are still the same. You either love or hate this 80s revival. I have to admit, I totally love it.

I really like the fact that you are actually wearing shorts, but are not exposing your legs too much. That length makes the shorts super versatile. They can be worn anywhere from office to dinner. You can easily dress them up with a cute blouse and blazer. Or you can pair them with a sporty sweatshirt or tanktop for a casual look. It’s all about mixing sport and street wear – casual and comfortable. However, unless you have legs like a top model, cycling shorts are not that easy to wear. Delicate heels can be helpful for a flattering silhouette. Worn anywhere but a bike, this trend is about to take over and become season’s newest staple.

I first dared to wear cycling shorts in New York about a year ago. If you are not 100% familiar with the trend yet, it is best to start off with a pair of denim bermuda shorts and heels.

My looks in details

With today’s blogpost I want to show you different styling possibilities and point out the way my style has developed over the past year. I must admit, that I too was a little reserved at the beginning when it came to the styling of the cycling pants. I started off with an inconspicuous denim version and finally created a look with a skin tight cotton version.

As you guys know, I’m really into clashing styles and I like to mix casual pieces with high- end accessories.

The main actor in today’s looks are these super cool Levis 501 bermuda shorts. They have a vintage inspired style with a super slim leg, open seams and a perfect light blue color. They are extremely versatile and can be worn from day to night. You can pair them with heels for a sophisticated and feminine look or go for sneakers and boxy sweaters instead.

You might need some time to get used to the skin tight cotton versions, but you should definitely give them a try. And again: sneakers look just as good as high heels.

And now guys: Are you ready for cycling shorts yet?
