A little bit late, but I am happy to show you some insights about this most amazing night in Hamburg. Karl Lagerfeld invited us to present the Chanel Métiers d’Art collection.
Homecoming collection: the lost child comes back home
Karl Lagerfeld was born in the northern German city of Hamburg, which is knows a major European shipping port and famous for their sailors cap. Focussing on his roots and the image of his hometown, Karl showed a collection based on a seafaring character. We saw sailors in their uniforms, also worn by the girls as a unisex sweater dress with over knee socks. And every model – male and female, was wearing his interpretation of the famous sailors cap. It seems like he went back, to the time when he left Hamburg and the seafaring and sailors dominated the city. You totally got a feeling of what people wore at that time and you utterly want to get every piece yourself. Lagerfeld decided to work close with Chanel-owned artisan-specialist brands like Maison Michel (hats), Barrie (cashmere), Goossens (jewelry), and Lesage (embroidery) to create an authentic Chanel Métiers d’Art collection collection in honor of his hometown.

The timing is perfect to come back to his hometown as the newly launched Elbephilharmonie just opened his doors. Lagerfeld fulfilled the auditorium of the Elbephilharmonie with live orchestral music, models coming from everywhere and as a german myself – I was pretty proud of the whole characterization of Germany. Lagerfeld brought all his friends and fans of the brand like Lily-Rose Depp, Kristen Stewart and Tilda Swinton as well as german celebrities. It seems like they all came by to celebrate his homecoming and honor his work for all the years. The after-party was held in a Dock, with german sailors singing their hymns, authentic-traditional food from Hamburg and ship containers converted as bars.
See yourself in my little video and tell me what you think. BTW I am wearing a total Chanel outfit starring this badass bag!
